Scripture
2 Corinthians 1:3-7 (ESV)
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. For as we share abundantly in Christ's sufferings, so through Christ we share abundantly in comfort too. If we are afflicted, it is for your comfort and salvation; and if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which you experience when you patiently endure the same sufferings that we suffer. Our hope for you is unshaken, for we know that as you share in our sufferings, you will also share in our comfort.

Colossians 2:13-14 (ESV)
And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross.
A Word from Spurgeon
"Therefore let anyone who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall." — 1 Corinthians 10:12 (ESV)
It's a curious thing that pride can attach itself even to grace. One person says, "My faith is strong — I won't fall; others with weaker faith might, but not me." Another says, "My love for God is deep; I'm on solid ground." But here's the truth: whoever boasts about their spiritual strength has very little of it to boast about.
Some people imagine that their spiritual qualities can sustain them on their own — not realizing that the stream must keep flowing from its source, or the brook will run dry. If oil stops flowing to the lamp, it may burn brightly today, but tomorrow it will sputter and smoke.
So be careful not to place your confidence in your own spiritual strengths. Let all your trust and confidence rest in Christ and his power alone — for that is the only sure foundation. Pray more. Spend longer time in worship and adoration. Read Scripture more earnestly and consistently. Watch over your life with greater care. Draw closer to God. Follow the best examples you know. Let your conversations carry the fragrance of heaven. Let your heart overflow with love for the people around you.
Live in such a way that others can see you have been with Jesus and learned from him. And when that joyful day comes — when the One you love calls you higher — may you hear him say: "You have fought the good fight. You have finished the race. And now a crown of righteousness is waiting for you." Press on, Christian — with care and caution. Press on with holy reverence. Press on with faith and confidence in Jesus alone. And let your constant prayer be: "Hold me up according to your word."
He is able — and he alone — "to keep you from falling, and to present you blameless before his glorious presence with great joy."

"Heavenly Father, I thank you for the gift of your Word. As I study today, grant me the spirit of wisdom and revelation. Help me to understand the context and the truth of what I am reading. Don't let me leave this place the same way I sat down; show me how to apply these truths to my actions and my thoughts. Amen."

The Gospel
Steps to Becoming a Christian & Receiving Eternal Life in Jesus Christ
1. The Problem: Our Sin
Romans 3:23 (ESV): "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."
Every person is a sinner and has failed to meet God's perfect standard.
2. The Consequence: The Penalty for Sin
Romans 6:23 (ESV): "For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."
The deserved consequence for sin is spiritual death, but God offers eternal life as a free gift.
3. The Solution: God's Demonstration of Love
Romans 5:8 (ESV): "But God demonstrates his own love for us in that: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us."
God provided the way to pay the penalty for our sin by sending Jesus to die in our place.
4. Our Response: To Receive Salvation
Romans 10:9-10 (ESV): "because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved."
Romans 10:13 (ESV): "For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."
Pray this prayer if you are ready to accept Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour:
Dear God,
I come to You today acknowledging that I need You. I admit that I have sinned and fallen short of Your standards. I believe that Jesus Christ is Your Son, that He died for my sins, and that He rose again to give me life.
I ask for Your forgiveness. Today, I open the door of my heart and invite You to come in. I accept Jesus as my Savior and Lord. Thank You for Your grace, Your love, and for the gift of eternal life. Help me to live for You from this day forward.
Amen.
Next Steps:
Read the Bible. Start with the Gospel of John and then continue to seek God in the scriptures.
Find a local church where you can ask questions and grow in your faith.
Tell others of your decision.
